There is an eagle nest about 50 yards in the front of my son's house on Lena Cove in Juneau. Every year the eagle couple has one eaglet. Throughout the summer you can see the young eagle flapping his wings in the nest, building up his muscles. Sometime in early August the immature eagle, with much coaxing from the parents, does his first flight around Lena Cove. By October all the eagles in the area seem to disappear for a month or so. I've heard they fly up to Haines for the late chum salmon run.
